This year we focused on my side of the family, our Cannon/ Fry family ancestors. Next year we would like to spend some time visiting the Pace family.
I took a ridiculous amount of pictures over the holiday so feel free to skim through (something about the nice weather just got to me and I snapped a million of them).
My parents love memorial day too and are great examples to me in remembering and honoring our ancestors. They shared lots of memories and stories of their parents and grandparents with us all weekend long. It was so awesome. :)
Saturday we started out with my mom and I going on a walk around the lake in Day Break and then the McKay and my dad going to a park for a round of disc golf. After disco golf we all met up at the park. We goofed off at the park for a bit, Magnolia had her first ride on a swing and then we headed to a couple cemeteries.
We visited two different cemeteries that day that are out in the West Valley/ Magna area. After the cemeteries we drove by my great grandparents old homes and my mom's old neighborhood from when she was a child and where my grandparents lived when I was a kid.
For lunch we went to Ab's Drive-in. Burger, shakes, and fries. Classic.
Saturday night we hung out and played games followed by a walk down the street to Soda row for a fun little concert.
Sunday after church we headed to Bountiful to visit my great grandparents grave and McKay's pioneer ancestor Eliza Pace. Sunday Mykelti and Draesen joined us as well as my parents. Then we ended with a picnic at Memory Grove in Salt Lake City where there is a plaque for my great Uncle Hugh who was lost at sea during WWII.
I think they should nickname Memory Grove "The dog park" since there were a million young adults there with their
We usually try to avoid visiting graves on Monday since cemeteries are always crowded that day. So we decided to throw my mom a special birthday party. She is turning the big 5-0 this year and so we thought we should celebrate while we were all together. It was also close to my dad's birthday and McKay's birthday so we celebrated them too. My dad made delicious kabobs... they were amazing. It was a beautiful afternoon once again and the party was a nice way to end our fun weekend.
