My Boys

So there is a tiny part of me that misses Declin's monthly updates.  Honestly just a tiny part of me.  I really don't love writing them, but I like having all the details of his personality written down.  So I want to do a little update on Declin as he is about to turn 15 months old next week.

Also Jensen grew up recently.  Physically and socially.  I am getting comments daily about how grown up he looks and seems.  And it is true.  Even I have noticed a recent change, so he gets an update too.

This week on Tuesday was our 6th wedding anniversary.  It was SUPER low key.  Seriously we just about blinked and missed it, but I am truly grateful for my handsome husband so I want to include him in this post.

So here is an update on the Pace boys.

Like I said, Declin will be 15 months old on Christmas Eve.  His latest thing is climbing.  Chairs and table are no longer off limits.  Unloading all the drawers is his second favorite activity.  He must love the look of all of the toys/clothes/books spread out all over the house, because he does it ALL day.  With that being said, he is actually really good at actually playing with his toys.  He will sit and be entertained by toys and activities for an extended period of time.  He especially loves the little people nativity that he got for Christmas last year.  He will reset it up several times a day.  He also loves puzzles and anything you can put objects into.  The garbage is apparently THE coolest toy.

Adalyn is his second mommy and he goes to her often to have her comfort him or help him do something.  She doesn't drive him crazy nearly as much as her "helping" did when he was younger.  Declin and Jensen are fun wrestling partners, but that is about it so far.

Declin is STILL a very picky eater, but we don't give in as much as we used to.  He will often love something at one meal, but then refuse it at the next so it is hard to keep track of what he actually likes.  Milk is about the only constant in his life.

Someday we will take the binky and the bottle away (I am thinking after Christmas), but for now he is definitely still attached to both.

He cries every time I say "no" to him.  No matter what he was doing he gets so offended if I scold him.  Such a sensitive boy.  Love him though and so grateful to have him in our family.

Jensen:  Oh Jensen he is growing up, and reaching the lovely three-nager stage.  He has his ways that he likes to do things and if I try and change his routines... oh boy!  Watch out!  Such as when he uses the toilet he insists upon every article of clothing being removed from the waist down.  Socks included.  He is talking more, but when he gets really excited he repeats his words a lot.  Sort of like stuttering, but it is not just a syllable, but a whole word that he will repeat several times.  We are just watching it for now, before we try and do anything about it.

Thankfully he still naps really well.  He CAN go without a nap for a day or two, but then you can tell he really needs one.  Today was one of those days.  He woke up in such a better mood this afternoon.
I am so interested to see how he handles Adalyn going to kindergarten next year.  Right now he is her little shadow.  He follows all of her ideas and just wants to do what she is doing.  So I am excited for him to get the chance to be his own person and have his own ideas.  I think he and Declin will start playing together a lot more.  Should be interesting to see what 2 little boys choose to do.  Doubt dressing up as princesses will be involved....

We love our Jensen boy who according to him is not our baby Jensen, but our "Jensen boy"

As for the oldest Pace boy.  He is doing well. :)  Work is far busier then it has ever been before.  He could spend all day there and never be done with all that needs to get accomplished.  Thankfully he chooses to come home on time most days even if I can still see him thinking about work all night.  Thus the life of an engineer... if there is a problem to be solved, he will think about it until he solves it.  He does enjoy his job, which I am very grateful for.  He also loves his church calling as ward clerk.  For an early Christmas present we bought him a Surface Pro (windows version of an I pad).  Easily the most expensive gift that he has ever asked for.  Honestly I was shocked that he even asked for it, since he hates spending money on himself.  So when he asked I told him to go out that day and get one.  Luckily he listened to me.  :)  It has been a very helpful tool as he takes notes in meetings and can access all ward records quickly and easily.  He has also been great at taking the kids outside and shoveling all the neighbors drive ways on our circle.  They love having him out there and he loves the exercise.

When he is not shoveling snow he often spends his evenings doing dishes or folding laundry.  He also plays with the kids.  Their current favorite game to play with him is prisoner which has taught Declin to run away from me when I call him instead of listening (not good).  I am SO SO grateful for his help in the evenings as that is the time of day when I am regrouping and recharging for the next fun filled day.

For our anniversary he was sweet and got me a Poinsettia which I thought was really festive for this time of year.  He also got me a necklace and let me pick out some new workout gear.  I got him some new casual shoes for work, which look so awesome on him.  We went on a quick anniversary date last Saturday night for a few hours before his bishopric Christmas party which was fun and he even walked around hobby lobby with me.  True love!  Our actual anniversary was spent at home with the kids, but it was special in its own way.  The past 6 years have been a great start to our marriage.  We are learning and growing together and enjoying the ride.  So grateful for his spiritual strength and his loving words and deeds to me and our sweet children.  I want to be like him when I grow up.  ;)

This anniversary really reminded me of our wedding day with how cold and windy it has been.  Also our anniversary was on a Tuesday this year and we were married on a Tuesday.  Yes we took pictures by the heater vents at the temple.  It was that cold.

Christmas Cuties

I am getting SO excited for Christmas.  14 more days!!  We have lots of fun planned with family and I can't wait to get our vacation started.  Oh and a huge bonus is that McKay has a whole 2 weeks off of work which = lots of family time.  Life just feels so much easier when he is there to help with the parenting.

A few weeks ago we pulled out the kids Christmas church outfits that they wear throughout the month of December (and we usually pull them out for Valentines day as well).  They looked SO cute and coordinated, but of course refused to take a picture for us.  Especially Declin.  He was NOT having it.  So here are the outtakes and hopefully we will get better ones in the future.

I think I am pretty much done Christmas shopping.  Just one more person left.  :)  I have really liked how we did Christmas for the kids this year and I hope they enjoy the special morning.

Last year we tried the"4 present" idea from Santa.  It is an idea floating around on Pinterest and Facebook that sounded really nice and simple.  It is where Santa brings 1 want gift, 1 need gift, 1 reading gift, and 1 gift to wear (aka clothes). So we tried it out last year.  Along with those 4 gifts we got the kids one gift from McKay and I and they also got their siblings each a gift.  So a total of 7 gifts per child.

After Christmas morning McKay and I discussed how things went.  We both decided that we weren't really in love with the 4 present idea but we disliked it for different reasons.  I felt like it was too restrictive and didn't bring the Santa excitement as much as I wanted.  Because as great as they are- books, clothes, and a need item weren't as exciting as their one "fun" gift.  I wanted the kids to enjoy opening each of their gifts and even though it was SUPER exciting to me, my kids were not excited about a new outfit (what?! new clothes are so fun right?!).  So I wanted to add in some more "fun" gifts.  If I remember right, McKay didn't love that system since he felt like 7 gifts was too many to give each child (I agreed with him, it felt like a lot).  So after some compromising we settled on our current plan that we are trying this year. (please know that if you do the 4 present idea, that is great!  Really, I think it is awesome!  It just didn't work for our current family situation)

Here is our current breakdown-

1. Fun Gift from Santa
2. Fun gift from Mom and Dad together
3. A book gift.
4. A fun educational gift
This last one isn't spelled out as well as the other three and will probably change forms as the kids get older.  But this year it is a preschool learning toy/activity for Adalyn and Jensen and Declin's is an Ergo carrier for him and I.  So pretty much I have translated it into a fun need gift/gift that mom wants you to have.  Hey, there are perks to being santa. :)

5. A small gift from a sibling
For their sibling gift they draw names for who gives to who.  Then we spend one family home evening in December at Toys R Us and they each get to shop for each other.  I can't believe that we braved Toys R Us with the kids in December (I was picturing intense meltdowns about wanting to buy the toys), but after a detailed talk in the car before we walked in they actually behaved well and enjoyed buying a gift for each other.

Another part of the kids Christmas is stockings.  While we may not have perfecting matching stockings yet (ours are the dollar store special) I do love doing stockings for everyone.  Here is the plan-

1. A movie or a music CD if the child is under 2
2. a small toy
The boys are getting matchbox type cars in their stocking and Adalyn is getting a beanie baby cat (cause heaven knows she will never get a real one)
3. a yearly ornament (they are SO cute this year!)
4. toothbrush
5. 2 different types of fun snacks like goldfish or chips that come in the mini snack packs
6. a small fun treat

This is what is going in this year's stocking (including mom and dad's stockings), but next year we are going to take the movie out of the stockings since they are starting to add up when buying one for every member of the family.  So we will switch those to a separate whole family gift and just get a few movies and a CD for everyone to share.  :)

Now I just have to wrap everything up and put it under the tree!

Also any ideas that your family loves?  I love hearing about everyone's traditions.

Feeling Thankful 2015

Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday.  Not only is it a day to be with family, but the excitement of the holiday season helps bring a warm and cozy spirit that might not have been there had they decided to have Thanksgiving in July.  One of my favorite instagramers  (she is 22, married, and has 6 kids 3 and under. busy right?!) lives in Australia and there the holidays are in the opposite seasons.  Obviously they don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but could you imagine celebrating Christmas in the summer.  Sounds fun every once in a while, but I love having the holidays to brighten our lives in the middle of winter.

This year for Thanksgiving we headed to Evanston to party with McKay's dad, stepmom, and 9 of his siblings and their families.  It was a full house and SO fun.

The drive to get to Evanston for Thanksgiving was SO intense.  Like "lets just turn around and go home" intense.  Now the drive from Idaho Falls to Evanston is already my least favorite drive there is.  No idea why but it is bad EVERY time.  The slow back roads just seem to twist and turn forever and while it usually only takes us just under 4 hours it always feels longer.  But this Thanksgiving drive took us 6 1/2 hours!  We left our house at 4 pm and got to the Pace farm at 10:30ish.  The roads were TERRIBLE especially near Brigham City.  We caught the storm that came through Wednesday night and we road in it the whole way there.

So when we finally arrived we were SO excited to get out of the car and there was no way we were going home anytime soon. :)

Thanksgiving day started out with what I like to call a Thanksgiving breakfast.  McKay's sister Jennifer hosted at her house a VERY yummy breakfast.  She really went all out and prepared a ton of amazing food.  French toast, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, hash browns, hot chocolate, fruit, and juice.  So yummy!  Thanks Jen for being a wonderful host

After breakfast we went back to the farm and the kids spent the time playing in a huge blanket fort in the living room while the adults prepared food and got foot-zoned.  McKay's sister, Diana, is learning to foot-zone so she literally spent the whole day rubbing everyone's feet.  Pretty nice of her!

The actual dinner was SO delicious.  I was really looking forward to the yummy food (most of which I didn't have to prepare. Sweet!) and it did not disappoint.  The actual eating of the yummy dinner was... well chaotic.  Lots of little toddler boys (Jensen being the craziest one of all, screaming and refusing to eat for most of the meal) leads to a not so peaceful meal.  But such is our stage of life so I just ate more after the kids ran back to play.  The adults even got to sneak in our pie eating without the little ones around so I call that a win since the desserts are the best part on Thanksgiving.

After eating we had grand plans of doing crafts and playing basketball, but in the end we just chatted watched Christmas movies, and hung out.  It was FREEZING outside so with everyone stuck inside there just wasn't room for crafts and paints with all the kids.  But I enjoyed chatting with everyone and I know the kids had fun being with cousins.

The rest of the weekend involved daddy babysitting the kids and Maka at grandma's house while mommy went shopping in Park City with my mom.  Then Saturday morning we headed back to Idaho.  The drive went MUCH smoother on the way home and we even got to stop by great grandma and Grandpa Pace's house (McKay's Dad's parents) in Wanship, UT on our way.  Grandma was as fun and talkative as ever and told us quite a few stories about their first house and how things were in the beginning of their marriage.  Grandpa got up in bed and chatted a bit, but didn't completely understand everything that we were talking about.  McKay loves to visit them so I was glad we were able to fit it in.

We are grateful for the blessing of family and all of the goodness in our lives.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Setting up for the Holidays

Tonight I banished myself to the bedroom to blog.  I am way too behind on updates for my comfort.  Guys I have a real fear of getting so far behind on my blogging that I just give it up all together. I should look it up since I am sure it is a real phobia ;)  I know it happens to the best of us, but I LOVE having these blog posts as my family's journal.  So here I am to remedy the situation.

Over the years we have debated  about when to decorate for Christmas.  The last few years we decorated on Dec 1st, but that date didn't always work perfectly with our schedule so then it would just get stressful trying to find a different time.  I also love the idea of already having my Christmas stuff up when I come back from Thanksgiving with family.  So our new goal is to decorate the Monday before Thanksgiving.  That is what we did this year.  Although we did put up the outdoor lights on the house a few weeks earlier before the snow came.

Anyways, that Monday we set up the tree and turned on the lights.  Then the kids watched the original Frosty the Snowman while McKay and I decorated the tree.  After everything was all set up (we don't have a lot of Christmas decorations) we had hot chocolate.  Adalyn LOVES hot chocolate so she was in HEAVEN!

We also pulled out their new Christmas jammies so that they can wear them all season long.  You know I love any chance to have them match!
I love how big Declin is starting to look.  He loves to copy everything and wants to be big too.  Watching these three get excited for Christmas is SO fun.  We also pulled out Declin's new fisher price nativity that he got from Christmas last year and he LOVES it.  He has carried those people all over the house ever since we pulled them out.  So nice when kids actually play with the gifts that you give them ;)

*side note I buy all of my kids Christmas clothes right after Christmas the year before they will wear them when things are on sale so that I only spend $25ish on all of their Christmas jammies and Christmas church clothes combined.

*Also I am REALLY going to try to stop taking pictures for the blog with my phone.  The pictures just turn out SO blurry!

Hope you are having a fun and festive holiday season!
