McKay was not able to come with us. He had a major deadline at work that he needed to stay for. Luckily for him, after many MANY hours of overtime he reached his deadline with a few minutes to spare.
We headed down to Utah, Sunday night after church. Surprisingly I was pretty stressed about driving down Sunday night since I am usually so tired after church, but we survived and the kids slept for about 2 hours of the drive which helped a lot.
The main reason that we were in Utah that week was to be there for my dad's high school basketball team's state playoff games. The games started Monday and if they continued to win they would play games all week until the championship game on Saturday afternoon. State playoff week is always a fun week and one my family looks forward to each year. Emotions always run high and it is the best feeling when the team wins. This year my dad's team played really well all season and it had been SO fun to watch them succeed. Two of the players on the team are long time friends from our old ward (before my parents moved) and one of the seniors was a boy (guy, guess he isn't so little anymore) that I used to babysit. Yes that makes me feel old saying that. So I guess you could say I felt a special connection to this year's team.
Going into the first playoff game on Monday I felt calm. They had done so well all year, I thought they would win for sure. Well sadly it was a really tough game. The boys played hard, but in the end they lost... at the last second... with a three point shot by the other team. Such a disappointing feeling!! I felt so bad for the players who had worked so hard to get to that point and then have it all end so soon. So the rest of the day on Monday was a sober one with the emotions of the game still fresh on everyone's mind. While it is just a game, we still really wanted the boys to succeed.
While the last game ended rough I hope the boys remember the amazing season that they had and all of the fun of being on the team.
My kids will probably just remember the candy...
Tuesday we were able to go to Provo with my family to tour the Provo City Center Temple. This was my kids first temple open house that they were able to go to and I was excited to show them the inside of one of these special buildings. The tour went smoothly and the kids behaved well. The temple was beautiful and very ornate. Such a special experience to have with my children and only wished that McKay could have come with us. Luckily we will get to attend the Idaho Fall Temple open house at the end of this year together which will also be fun since it will be "their" temple.
After the temple we had Waffle Love which is always a treat.
Wednesday we spent the day with my aunt Heather while my mom and dad were at work. She took us to the Museum of Natural Curiosity and then we had a picnic lunch after. She was a great host helping with the kids and being very hands on as we went throughout the museum. We love any chance that we get to visit that fun place and were happy to be able to make it there again.
Heather and I were trying so hard to get Declin to smile for the camera and he was not having it!
Wednesday night Myketi came up from college for dinner and some play time with the kids. My kids adore Mykelti so it was a special treat to see her and she was a good sport to play with the kids. Cannot believe the next time we are in Salt Lake will be for Mykelti's bridal shower!
Thursday we had a special play date with some new friends. Shantel and I met years ago when our soon to be husbands were roommates at Utah State. After only meeting a couple times on some double dates, Shantel and I started following each other on Facebook and through our blogs. Over the years we have both faithfully documented our families lives on our blogs and have had fun interacting through comments and emails. She is the best writer and is always so honest about life and its ups and downs. Her kids are adorable and so smart. It has been so fun to "get to know them" through her blog. The icing on the cake was that she had her youngest and I had Declin only hours apart from each other. I knew that we would have to get together someday. Finally a year and a half after they were born we were able to make it happen. I am sure her kids were slightly freaked out by the fact that I knew their names yet they had no idea who I was, but our kids have a fun time playing together and I had a great time chatting in person with Shantel. Hopefully we will be able to get together again someday when the daddies can join us.
Capturing a decent picture of 5 kids together who just really wanted to run around and play pirates was a small challenge so this is the best that we got. The weather was gorgeous in Utah that week such a nice time away from windy and cold Idaho!
Friday we drove home and were back in Idaho in time to see Daddy get home from work. I was exhausted after our fun week and spent the weekend recovering from all of the fun. Mckay on the other hand spent the weekend building the kids their new playset for the backyard. Lucky kids!
The play set has been a huge hit and the first day it was up I counted 20 kids in my backyard at one time (luckily no one got hurt). It was seriously crazy! The weather has not been great since then so the kids haven't played with it as much as they wish they could. But I know they are going to love it this summer and I am excited for some long summer days of friends, popsicles, and playtime that are in our future.
Taking a quick popcorn break. This is half of the kids that came over that day.
Have a great week!

Again, bummer about your Dad's team! But I'm SO SO SO glad that I got to see you! I started blogging about your visit on Tuesday, but need to finish up. Plus, I have some cute pictures to send to you. I can't say enough how much I love following your blog. I think you are a wonderful writer and I admire you as a mother! I'm glad that becoming blog friends has helped turn us into real friends, too.
